YALE BANNER
From 2019-2021, I served as Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Banner, Yale’s annual yearbook.
I spent countless hours working out the logistics of portrait & event photography, team-building, and planning, but the most exciting responsibility to me was the book’s design and layout.
The 2020 Banner was more or less of a trial run, as the sudden COVID-19 crisis upended my spring semester and forced me to transform the entire Commencement section into a COVID-19 Senior Goodbyes section. In 2021, the challenges of the pandemic continued to affect my work, but I adapted the book to reflect the realities of hybrid education.
The Banner has always followed a tradition of minimalist, clean design (spearheaded especially by Julia Ma, the 2019 editor-in-chief), that influenced my work.
The 2021 book, pictured to the right, showcases the cover I designed, the photography and design my team and I contributed, and overall my extensive collaboration with the design and printing consultants at Jostens, the yearbook company in partnership with Yale.
